Not every engagement session comes with blue skies, and honestly, after seeing how amazing this session went..I'm okay with that!
M booked in with me for a mountain mini session, and neither of us knew it would become an engagement shoot! Just about one week before we met, he surprised her with a proposal, turning an already exciting photo session into the perfect way to celebrate this new chapter together. The proposal itself was made even more meaningful by her absolutely stunning ring. A's dad handcrafted it in Australia before it made its journey all the way home to her. Knowing the time, care, and love that went into creating something so personal made photographing it feel extra special.
On the day of the session, and in typical Alberta summer fashion, the mountains greeted us with thick fog, steady rain, and the kind of weather that usually makes people nervous. I could tell they had been hoping for sunshine, but we embraced the weather we had and made some magic happen.
The mist wrapped around the mountains, creating a quiet, intimate atmosphere that felt like it belonged only to the two of them. And really, it did! It was just us out there at a location that's typical quite busy. The rain softened the landscape, and it somehow made every moment feel even more authentic. There was no pressure for everything to be perfect—just two people completely caught up in the excitement of being newly engaged.
I'll admit, I'm a total lover of golden hour sunshiny days, buuuut.. rainy day sessions might just be my favourite right now. The weather adds emotion, movement, and a little unpredictability that you simply can't recreate. The fog created beautiful layers throughout the mountains, and the rain gave everything a rich, timeless feel. I felt like I was watching "The Notebook" in real time. This session is a reminder that your photos don't need perfect weather to be beautiful.
